Mercedes Announce All New ELECTRIC G WAGON. Is This The Future Of Luxury Electric Vehicles?

The G Wagon has become a cultural symbol of luxury, wealth and success. The G series of vehicles has almost become it’s own spin-off section from the company which it’s loyal consumer base. Talk of an electrified G wagon had been humming in the distance but now it has been fully confirmed.

CEO of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class sub-brand, Emmerich Schiller commented that the engineering challenge of making an electric G-Wagon would be a big task. One of the challenges is having the vehicle able to tackle the Schöckl Mountain, the crucible for all previous G-Class vehicles that looms over their headquarters. Adding motors and batteries should not affect the vehicles’ off-road ability.

The EQG keeps the ladder-frame chassis and but makes many amendments to the G formula. The vehicle is not simply a G-Wagon placed on top of a EQ battery kit. The vehicle is almost a full engineering overhaul, placing the batteries within the ladder frame while protecting it from typical off-road dangers.

Unlikely to be released until 2024, the battery capacity and range figures are understandably unavailable. Unofficial estimations say the battery pack is likely minimum 108KWh delivering 310 miles on a single charge. While battery information might be a mystery currently, the level or protection is already being showcased. The pack is protected by Kevlar carbon material on the underside of the vehicle.

Four independent motors will be powering the car, which allows for incredible power but also excellent off-roading capabilities as the intelligent off-roading system to deliver unique power to which wheel needs it for the moment. Alongside a creeper mode the EQG is looking like the most advanced off-roader from G-Class so far.

The ‘G-Turn’ is a brand new feature that allows the EQG to perform a tank turn, possible due to the vehicle having a motor per wheel, not possible for typical combustion vehicles.

Italian Electric Motorcycle Company, Energica Release MASSIVE 180hp Electric Motor

Italy have one of the richest histories of any country when it comes to automotive production. Now one of Italy’s few electric motorcycle makers, Energica are releasing their new 180hp electric motor. Energica already have one of the most powerful electric drivetrains on the market but are still aiming to innovate further.

It was revealed from Energica’s recent US filing for compliance, that they are creating a 134Kw motor, this is a 22% increase on top of their current most powerful offering. Electric vehicles already have an acceleration that way outperforms combustion, so this increase in power by Energica will feel like a considerable power difference for riders.

It doesn’t appear that the new electric motor will be equipped on the new Energica Experia, but documents suggest there may be another model with this equipped. The Experia is Energica’s first sport tourer, opening access to a new consumer base for the company.

No further information is available about this Experia-based drivetrain for the electric motorcycle but hopefully more will be revealed at upcoming motorcycle shows. With all Energica’s electric motorcycles, only 30 minutes in needed for an almost full charge using DC fast charging.

Delfast Launch 1000W Electric Moped With 100 Mile Range. Most Advanced Ebike Yet?

Delfast has produced powerful electric motorbikes in the past, including the Ukrainian military adaptation, but now we are seeing their latest invention, the Delfast California Electric Moped.

The California, unlike the Delfast 3.0, is aimed at targeting an audience with more utilitarian and commuter needs, and unlike the 3.0, will comply with all legal frameworks. In the US, the bike meets Class 3 designation, that allows for 750W motors and a max speed of 28 mph.

However, Delfast are still pushing the limits, with the ‘750W nominal’ motor on the California actually capable of 1,000W peak power and 160Nm of torque. Alongside this motor is a 48V, 20Ah lithium battery with 960Wh of capacity. The milage is claimed to be 100 miles while under pedal assist of 20mph. But real-life testing will have to verify this claim.

The U-shaped full-suspension frame allows for a diverse range of rider heights, from 5’0” to 6’3” and the low-step allows for easy access. The low weight of 66Lbs (30kg) also allows for easy manoeuvrability.  Integrated LED lights, hydraulic brakes, LCD display all come standard.

An in-built tracker with customisable alarms and emote immobilisation that pinpoints the location is a useful tool against theft.

The Delfast is available to fund on Indiegogo at a starting price of $1,999, down from the full retail of $3,999

Yamaha Release Two NEW Full-Suspension Electric Bikes. Yamaha Are Taking The E Bike World By Storm.

The electric bike division of Yamaha, Yamaha Power Assist Electric Bicycles, has launched two new electric bikes, in the YDX-MORO line. The YDX-MORO series was unveiled two years ago, with its radical split, cage like frame and top of the range mid motor, we are now seeing the latest updates.
