Meet the unique electric trike looking to replace your car. The Northern Light Motors electric velomobile is the newest in e transport.

Northern Light Motors, a Worcestershire-based start up car manufacturer, has unveiled its latest innovation looking to shake up the e-transport market. An electric trike (or more accurately an electric velomobile).

Their uniqueness is from radical design matched with innovative technology all influenced by vintage British style. The company was made by former TVR designer Graham Browne, who designed the TVR tuscan convertible.

The cheapest model, the 428 is pedal powered with a 10 speed gear derailleur and hydraulic disc brakes.

Further up the range, the 557-Green has a 250w - 750w motor and a 10.5 Ah battery. Combined, this provides a 40 mile range and is capable of a 40 mph top speed. The 557 further comes with LED lights and a detachable roof.

The top of the range model is the 630-Red. This fully electric electric trike gets a 48V, 20Ah battery and 1.5kW hub motor.  This fully electric variant gets a 48V, 20Ah battery and 1.5kW hub motor, giving it an official range of more than 40 miles and unrest ted top speed of 45mph.

Velomobile Electric Trike Front

The 630-Red electric trike / velomobile comes with performance brakes, tyres and also a bluetooth app. This electric trike even includes a rear view camera. The electric trikes can be further upgraded to a 20Ah battery, which the company claim will increase the range to 100 miles. This bike is also available to drive on a CBT license, which can be acquired on a 1-day training course at 16 in the UK.

Safety is a primary focus in the design, with all the contactable areas well above bumper height of other traffic, with deflective narrow surfaces and large crumple zones. The cell around the pilot is double coated for side impacts and also incorporates a roll hoop. The rear wheel claw at the end is also specifically designed to deflect impacts.

Northern Electric Trike Side

Prices begin from £4000 for the non-electric model and Northern Light Motors are looking to deliver its first orders early next year.
